Maternity Session

If you’ve never had a maternity session before, you may not know how to prepare or what to expect. I have put together a useful guide of everything you need to know in order to make the most of your session and get images you will love and cherish forever.

During your session we have fun, we talk about what a bad ass you are, we laugh, but most importantly, we document YOU and all of your fierceness. I truly love what I do. I think pregnancy is absolutely beautiful and your changing body should be celebrated!

Everything You Need to Know

I offer a collection of maternity gowns for you to choose from if you would like. However, if you would rather wear your own clothing, that's perfectly fine! Either way we will go over colors and select a color pallet to plan around. If your significant other and/or children will be taking part in the session, I will also help you choose clothing for them. This will help take the stress off of you and ensure everything flows perfectly.

What to bring to your session:

I have a selection of maternity gowns, floaty fabrics, and bodysuits for your photoshoot, but below are some things to bring if you would like to use your own clothing (please don't stress if you don't have everything on the list below):

  • Wear plain underwear in nude, black, and white. (plain bra and panties)
  • A pair of nude or white thongs.
  • Plain strapless bra - Nude will work best, avoid lace.
  • Any of your own outfits or underwear that you wish to wear for your session.

*Please make sure that the underwear you choose is not too tight!* This is to ensure your underwear does not cut into your skin creating visible bumps and indentations under the dresses you are wearing.

Makeup Suggestions:

If you really want to look your best during your pregnancy photoshoot, getting your makeup done professionally would be the best way to go. A professional makeup artist will know how to do your makeup so it shows best in photos. Ideally, a "soft glam" style of makeup would be best for your pregnancy photoshoot. Continue the pampering with a visit to your hairstylist and get your hair professionally done for your pregnancy photoshoot. If you’re not sure how to have your hair done, think about what you want your photos to look like. If you’re going for a more casual look, a loose and simple hairstyle may be the perfect option. But if you want your images to look a little more formal, don’t be afraid to go for an elegant look.

If you would rather do your hair and makeup yourself, here are some tips!

  • Lips – Avoid frosts or glitters that will reflect light. Avoid very dark colors. Bring your lipgloss along for touch-ups.
  • Face – AVOID all bronzers. Powder your face to cut down on shine. Light Blush will add nice color. Wear brown or black eyeliner mascara. Fake lashes are encouraged as they really make your eyes pop. Please avoid eye shadows with shimmer/glitter.
  • Eyebrows – Be sure to pluck if needed. If waxing, be sure to do it a week prior to avoid having redness.
  • Nails – Schedule a manicure and pedicure (if you’ll be wearing open toed shoes). Avoid extremely bright or fluorescent nail color.
  • Skin – Moisturize your elbows, knees and legs. Dry skin will show up in photographs.

The time you spend planning your session and clothing will pay off in the end with a beautifully coordinated portrait. A portrait that will never look dated. I am happy to answer any questions, so please feel free to call or e-mail.

Please don't stress!

It’s easier said than done, but do your best to relax and not worry about your session. I will walk you through every pose and position, and also be on hand to be your hype woman for the day :-) . All you have to do is be your natural and your beautiful self!
