BEFORE YOUR SESSION

Pamper yourself. Get your nails done. Get your hair and makeup done (don’t know where to start with this? I can make sure you’re taken care of!). This day is all about you, so do whatever is going to help you relax so you look and feel your best! I understand that by the end of your pregnancy you may start to feel far from your typical self, but trust me. You. Are. Stunning.

Get plenty of rest the night before. I know, it can be hard to get any decent sleep during pregnancy, but if you’re able to, go to bed early and try to get a full night’s sleep. That way, you’ll be refreshed and relaxed at your session the next day.

Stay hydrated—and don’t skip breakfast. It’s critical to drink plenty of water both before and during your session. Hydrated skin will look fresh, and staying hydrated will help keep your energy up throughout the shoot. And even if you have a case of nerves about stepping in front of the camera, be sure to eat breakfast before your session.

FINDING THE PERFECT OUTFIT

The good news about trying to find the perfect dress for your photo session is that I have you covered! I have a client closet filled with maternity gowns for your choosing. Don’t see one you like? Help me pick out the next custom gown for my closet! Of course, you can wear whatever outfit you choose for your session. Just make sure that it is tighter around the belly to show off your gorgeous, growing bump! Also, keep your colors simple and avoid loud colors or patterns. Neutral or jewel tones are best!

Give some thought to your underwear and bras as well. For example, if you’re wearing a white dress, you don’t want to wear dark panties that will show through the fabric. I always recommend nude underwear and strapless bras, and some black and white underwear.

LOCATION

Where do you feel most at peace? Love spending your days at the beach in the sand, then your session should take place at the beach. Wherever you feel describes you and your family, aim for your session to take place at a location that represents it. Enjoy spending a relaxing day at home with your family? Have your session take place in the comfort of your own home. No matter where you choose, I will help find your perfect location.

DETAILS

From the colors you and your family choose to wear to the meaningful baby items you want to be incorporated into your photo shoot, these details should not be overlooked. A few tips to remember:

  • Less is more when planning the wardrobe for you and your family. Dress in neutral colors with avoiding big designs or patterns on their shirts.
  • Bring small items that are meaningful if you would like, but it is not a requirement. Maternity sessions are focused on you and your beautiful belly, so make sure your fingernails are “photoshoot ready”.
  • Keep your jewelry and accessories to a minimum. Accessories that are too big can take away the focus from you.
  • Pack a hairbrush, touch-up makeup, and anything additional you may need while at your session
