Milestone Session Prep Guide

Milestone Sessions are quick, easy, and fun! These sessions usually last around 40 mins, depending on baby. I will capture memories like them grabbing their toes, giggling, tummy time, sitting up, crawling, and more! My goal is to capture those precious details for you so that you have them for a lifetime, because babies change so quickly!

DAY OF SESSION

  • Feed your baby a meal or snack before heading in to the studio. A fed baby is a happy baby!
  •  Consider leaving guests and siblings at home. Baby can become easily distracted by too many people around during the session.
  • Avoid replacing nap time with a nap in the car on the way to the session. Babies who take their nap in the car, are often woken up mid-nap and are not happy. Or they don’t fall asleep in the car like they normally do. I highly suggest doing baby’s normal nap time at home and then coming straight to the session. Schedule the best time of day between 10am-2pm that your baby is the happiest!
  • Avoid bringing toys or “lovies” that you do not want photographed. Once they see their favorite toy, it will be difficult to capture images without it.
  • If your baby is teething, please consider giving them a pain reliever before you arrive. If your baby is sick, please call me and we will reschedule. A sick baby does not want to be photographed, and you will not want photos of a miserable, red-cheeked, runny-nosed baby (no matter how much you love them!) I am generally very flexible during the week for Milestone sessions, so finding a new date will not be hard. If you arrive to my studio (which is in my home) and your baby is visibly ill, I will ask you reschedule.

WHAT TO WEAR

I have a carefully curated selection of outfits for ages 3 months to 1 year available for both boys and girls. However, you also have the option to bring an outfit that you would like photographed.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Snacks
  • One of their favorite toys
  • Diapers
  • Pacifier
  • One photo-ready parent. It is always a good idea to have one parent present who is ready to step in for pictures should we need some help or extra comfort for the baby during the session.

DURING THE SESSION:

These sessions are often fast paced. Don't feel like I am rushing. I know how babies work, I know they are going to give us limited time and limited outfit changes so I have to get it in while I can and my goal is to give you a full gallery with plenty of variety.

Some babies, especially at the 1 year session, can be wary of strangers. I will spend 5-10 minutes before I start the session playing with your little one, to get them feeling comfortable with me. Rarely, but it happens, babies will not separate from their mom/dad and can become upset. If this happens, I will spend more time playing, trying to ease their fears. If this does not help, we may need to get creative in how we take the photographs (I once did an entire session of a baby on her mom’s lap and you couldn’t even tell!)

The most most most important thing: try to ENJOY the experience! I know pictures can be stressful but please don't fret too much! I work almost exclusively with babies and kids, I know how kids work, and I understand they are occasionally difficult. I will do everything in my power to deliver you fabulous images and make it a pleasurable memory.
